The announced new rugged 8849, the 8849 Tank X, has officially launched. How much is this smartphone with a projector priced?
First, let's recap what the 8849 Tank X has to offer... It's a durable smartphone with IP68 and IP69K water resistance, in a housing reinforced with metal inserts and rubber bumpers. Unfortunately, the thing is quite large – 180.5 x 91.8 x 31.9 mm – and quite heavy – weighing 750 g. This is partly due to a substantial, classic-type battery with a capacity of 17,600 mAh and fast, 120-watt charging. The case also houses a 1,200-lumen camping flashlight, an FM radio, and, above all, a DLP projector with Full HD resolution that can project an image diagonal from 50 cm to 3 m. The projector's brightness reaches 220 lumens, and the best image is achieved from a distance of up to 4 m from the screen. Thanks to the large battery, the projector operates continuously for up to 5 hours in high brightness mode, while night mode extends the projection time to 6 hours. A wide ±40° keystone correction allows you to align the projection on a flat surface even when the phone isn't perfectly straight, keeping images rectangular and distortion-free. The Smart PA speaker (3.5 cm³ chamber, 2 W, up to 97 dB) takes care of the projection audio.

The smartphone features a 6.78-inch LCD display with Full HD+ resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a not-so-bright 580 nits of brightness, as well as a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 processor, paired with LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 memory in a 16GB and 512GB configuration. The device also includes a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 camera, a 64-megapixel OmniVision OV64B1B night vision camera, an 8-megapixel HiSilicon HI847 3x telephoto camera, and a 50-megapixel Hi5022Q selfie camera. The smartphone supports 5G and NFC, has a minijack and two push-to-talk buttons, and its pre-order price is $550 or PLN 2,000. Unfortunately, the device uses the now-obsolete Android 15.
