Xiaomi today announced the European launch of its compact flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 17, as well as the ultra-flagship camera phone, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, also available as a Leica Leitzphone with an additional kit for mobile photography enthusiasts.

Xiaomi 17

Xiaomi 17 is a compact flagship with a 6.3-inch CrystalRes OLED LTPO screen with a resolution of 1220x2656 pixels, brightness up to 3500 nits, and a refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. The display is HDR10+ and Dolby Vision certified, as well as Xiaomi Shield Glass and a bezel only 1.18 mm wide, with an ultrasonic fingerprint reader underneath. The smartphone is, of course, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, supported by LPDDR5X and UFS 4.1 memory, and is powered by a sizable 6330 mAh battery for its size, supporting 100-watt wired charging, 50-watt induction, and 22.5-watt reverse charging. The camera setup includes four 50-megapixel sensors. It includes an OV50M wide-angle camera with a 17mm (102-degree) equivalent focal length and an f/2.4 aperture, a main camera with a 1/1.31-inch Light Fusion 950 sensor and an f/1.67 aperture, and a Samsung JN5 camera with a 2.6x telephoto lens (f/2.0) and a selfie camera (f/2.0). The main and telephoto cameras have optical image stabilization, and the latter also offers macro photography from a distance of 10 cm. Stereo speakers with Hi-Res, Hi-Res Audio Wireless, and Dolby Atmos certifications round out the features. The smartphone measures 151.1 x 71.8 x 8.06 mm and weighs 191 g. The housing is IP68-rated and is available in four colours. The variant 12+256 GB starts from 999 EUR.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra

Xiaomi 17 Ultra features a 6.9-inch HyperRGB OLED M10 LTPO display with a peak brightness of 3500 nits and an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. The screen is protected by Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0 and is HDR10+ and Dolby Vision certified. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, supported by LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. The smartphone runs the Xiaomi HyperOS 3 operating system based on Android 16. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra boasts a 50-megapixel Light Fusion 1050L main camera sensor with optical image stabilization, an f/1.67 aperture, and a 23mm focal length. There's also a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 115-degree field of view with a 17mm focal length. The rear camera setup is rounded out by a 200-megapixel Samsung HPE camera with an optically stabilized, periscopic telephoto lens. This camera offers a unique smooth zoom range of 75-100mm, providing a 3.2-4.3x zoom with an f/2.39-2.96 aperture, and also allows for macro photography from a distance of 30cm. The camera setup also includes a 50-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture, 21mm focal length, and a 90-degree field of view. You can film in 8K at 30 fps or in 4K at up to 120 fps. The device is powered by a 6000 mAh battery and supports 90W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging. The smartphone measures 162.9 x 77.6 x 8.29 mm and weighs 219 g. Xiaomi's new flagship also has an ultrasonic fingerprint reader, UWB and NFC connectivity, stereo speakers, and an IP68 waterproof rating. There are three housing colours to choose from. The variant 1 16+512 GB starts from 1499 EUR.

Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi

The Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi is essentially a themed edition of the previously described Xiaomi 17 Ultra model, dressed in the iconic style of Leica cameras. This model is slightly thicker than the base model, but there are no real technical differences. Only the smartphone's appearance changes, but the memory options are the same: 16 + 512 GB and 16 GB + 1 TB – and the price starts from 1999 EUR. The smartphone features Leica logos on the casing, additional software filters, and a special kit including a case with a 2000 mAh battery, a lens cap, a lanyard, and a cleaning cloth.
