Just a month after the launch of the Lava Yuva Smart 3, the budget smartphone Lava Smart 4 Plus with a similar name and even more similar specifications has gone on sale in India.
In the smartphone market, it's easy to come across many devices with different names but identical specifications. Sometimes, as in the case of Redmi and POCO, this can be easily explained by differences in the popularity of individual brands and series depending on the region. However, it sometimes happens that one manufacturer decides to release another smartphone of the same brand, or even from the same series, in the same region, without bothering to change the specifications.
Lava Smart 4 Plus can be considered a particularly infamous example of this practice – aside from slightly different appearances from model to model, the differences between the individual smartphones in the Lava Yuva Smart series are very minimal. The Lava Yuva Smart runs on older Android and has a less smooth screen refresh rate. The Lava Smart 4 Plus has slightly more RAM (perhaps that's where the "Plus" comes from?) and supports newer Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity standards, but that's where the differences end.
Apart from the odd naming, the 74548 has a chance to appeal to buyers with its low price and several useful features, although the presence of a Unisoc 9863A processor, Android 15 Go operating system, and 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM doesn't promise smooth and reliable operation. Fortunately, the 64 GB of internal memory can be expanded by up to 256 GB with a microSD card in the hybrid dual SIM slot. The 3.5 mm minijack and FM radio are additional advantages. The budget-friendly design is complemented by a 6.75-inch 720p LCD display, a 5000MP battery with 10W charging, and dual cameras – a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie camera in the front notch.
The Lava Smart 4 Plus is available in Indian stores in Nilgiri Blue and Himalayan Silver, and is priced at just 10,000 rupees, or approximately $106.
