Google has officially unveiled its new Google Fitbit Edge fitness tracker. What does this sports gadget offer?
The Google Fitbit Edge features a 65 mAh battery that provides up to a full week of operation and charges in an hour and a half. The device catches the eye with its 1.34-inch AMOLED display—featuring Always-on Display functionality and a distinctive oval shape. Its 11.58 mm thick casing is made of aluminum and boasts IP68 and 5 ATM water resistance ratings. Powered by an Ambiq AP5 processor with 64 MB of memory, the tracker includes GPS, IR sensors for blood oxygen (SpO2) monitoring, electrical sensors for ECG recording, an optical PPG heart rate sensor, and a non-contact skin temperature sensor. It is compatible with smartphones running Android 11 or iOS 16.4 (and newer versions), connecting via Bluetooth 5.4 and the Google Health app.

The tracker logs over 40 types of exercises and automatically recognizes more than 40 workout varieties. Real-time workout metrics can be monitored on both the device and the mobile app, with summaries available after completing a session. Users can track floors climbed and elevation changes, map their routes, and record Cardio Load and VO2 Max metrics. Naturally, there are also smartphone notifications, quick replies to messages, media controls for the connected phone, an alarm clock, and a timer. The standard Fitbit Edge model is available in four variants: Matte Black aluminum with an Obsidian Active band, Satin Silver aluminum with a Fog Active band, Satin Pyrite aluminum with an Olive Active band, and Champagne Gold with a Canyon Active band. The Stephen Curry Special Edition stands out with its Satin Pyrite aluminum case and a special orange-coloured band. Prices start at $179.
