Nubia Neo 5 Pro has debuted in the Philippines. It's an affordable, yet gaming smartphone, though that sounds a bit contradictory.
Can a budget smartphone be called a gaming smartphone? It's a bit like a guinea pig, which has little in common with pigs and the sea. The Nubia Neo 5 Pro also has only a passing connection to gaming, and these are manifested primarily in the smartphone's styling. Other gaming attributes include side-mounted touch triggers with a 550 Hz sampling rate, an extensive cooling system, and stereo speakers with DTS X Ultra and a decent vibration feedback system. The 6000 mAh battery with 80-watt charging and bypass power also looks good, as does the 6.8-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. There's also a decent amount of memory on board – 12GB and 256GB. Unfortunately, things get worse – the smartphone is powered by a Unisoc T9100 processor with a Mali-G57 graphics chip – and this is where the gaming appeal begins to fade. As a consolation, we're left with two cameras – a 16-megapixel front camera and a 50-megapixel rear camera with background blur – as well as IP64 waterproofing and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. The most important thing, however, is the price of 15,000 pesos, or $250. In other words, it's a cheap way to get a taste of the gaming experience.
