Two new Mediatek processors for mid-range smartphones have just been released, including one designed specifically for dual-display devices.
New processor generations can be tricky – sometimes they involve huge leaps in performance, and sometimes they're literally the same processor with a new name. The Dimensity 7450 and Dimensity 7450x aren't quite so bad – while most of their specifications and features are very similar to the Dimensity 7400 and Dimensity 7400X, they also feature a few significant improvements. Both processors support the new global 5G connectivity standard compliant with 3GPP Release 17, which will improve average speed, range, and reliability while maintaining efficient power consumption. Another new feature is the sixth-generation NPU, which increases the performance of local AI by 7%. Camera AI features can also benefit from significant improvements in efficiency and energy efficiency.
Like the previous generation, the Dimensity 7450 and Dimensity 7450x are 8-core processors based on a 4nm architecture, with four Cortex-A78 cores with a peak clock speed of 2.6 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores for stability, as well as an Arm Mali-G615 MC2 graphics chip. These processors support LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 internal storage, 12-bit HDR, 200MP main cameras, and displays with a maximum resolution of WFHD+ at 120 Hz and FHD+ at 144 Hz. The Mediatek Dimensity 7450+ also offers support for two displays, which in practice means primarily clamshell foldable phones - the first to benefit from the Dimensity 7450x will be the upcoming Motorola RAZR 70.
