Is there such thing as a female smartphone? According to the Japanese people - yes. KDDI have launched recently three models, which - if we think a bit stereotypically - you can just call the female phones. Why stereotypically?
In a matter of fact, none of the presented structures is equipped with features designed exclusively for women. You will not find in them shopping lists, shortcuts to women's portals, marriage calendars, or any other typically female gadgets. Stereotypical thinking requires, however, for women's phone to be pink, white or blue. KDDI novelties can be purchased just in those unusual for smartphones, colour covers.
The first is Sharp AQUOS IS11H. The phone is a slider, it can be pink or blue, and at first glance does not look like a classic smartphone. It lacks even the classic attributes that is a QWERTY keyboard. Slide open the phone will reveal to us only classic numeric keys. On the other hand, IS11H has the processor Snapdragon MSM8655 1.4 GHz and 3.7-inch touchscreen 3D AVS 960x540 pixel. And that's enough to talk about the smartphone. When coupled with the Android 2.3, as well as GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi and a 1seg TV receiver TV - "smartphones" list is already full.
The phone also has 8-megapixel camera that can capture three-dimensional image, but in a slightly unusual way - by the way, probably not very comfortable. Because there is used a single lens and one sensor and to obtain the 3D image, you need two shots made with a certain shift. This can be done, but it is more difficult than a single "shot", despite the visible signs on the screen to facilitate the proper designation of the second frame. But then you can see the 3D image on the display without using glasses.
Another model is the Toshiba REGZA IS11T. Here we have already a QWERTY keyboard, and even the shape of housing (except for the colour) can be called the classic model of a smartphone. Also in this model on 4-inch screen with a resolution of 854x480 pixels appears Android 2.3 interface, and MSN8655 processor manages the whole, but with a 1 GHz clock speed. The list of equipment is similar to that in the case of Sharp, but apart from GPS, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi it also includes DLNA transmission. There is also the standard 1seg TV and video cameras. Here, however, the Japanese women can take advantage of a classical camera with 8-megapixel image sensor.
The last of the novelties, Iida Infobar A01, was pulled on the "female list" with a little exaggeration. It's actually a normal phone, but because it is available in several colour combinations, that is why it can be assumed that many women consider that it might be an interesting, colourful addition to the clothing. A case styling seems mot very male - if you can talk of any such styling at all. In this model, we find again Android 2.3 and Snapdragon MSM8655. Back to the list of equipment there is a Wi-Fi and 8-megapixel camera. There is no built-in television, but the manufacturer gives you in return as a useful part: electronic wallet using NFC communication. Iida Infobar A01 dimensions are slightly smaller than the models described earlier, but still they managed to fit in it the 3.9-inch display with a resolution of 960x540 pixels.
Of course, none of these models will come to European market. So why do I mention them? These models clearly show how the Japanese mobile phone market is different from ours. Not only do the operators offer incredibly diverse models, but also bring to sell phones that would be immediately called a niche, and recorded a spectacular commercial failure. But in Japan - they may hit the market!
