Sony finally officially revealed two models, whose specifications for some time were no longer a mystery. I think it was worth waiting, because Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL apart from raw elegance present opportunities which are worth noticing.
If not for a few differences, it would be easy to take the model for the twins. At a closer look at the full front panel it is easy to see the differences in the location of the front video camera, button placement on the side of the phone, or sensors. A quick overview of the rear panel leaves no doubt: Xperia ZL has a rough battery cover and centrally positioned lens, Xperia Z is smooth, shiny, and the camera along with LED light simply occupy the upper left side of the casing.

There are also some differences in the technical specifications, but here we are no longer so sure. Some of the differences - such as the one concerning support various capacity of microSD cards (Sony Xperia Z - 32 GB, and Xperia ZL - 64 GB) may be due to producer’s haste or editor’s carelessness at the Sony site. Probably of the same one who stubbornly placed low-quality phone photos as press photos on the Sony’s account in Picassa service. Models vary in size and weight, and battery life. There are also differences in the list of supported networks:
- Sony Xperia Z
- GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
- UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 2100 (Band I) MHz
- LTE Bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20
- Sony Xperia ZL

- UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1700 (Band IV), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I)
- LTE Bands 1, 2, 4, 5, 12
- At the same time it is recommended to remember that Sony throws into one bag all frequencies, but in practice, each model will be available in at least two varieties and handle the frequency characteristic of the place of sale.

Detailed information can be found naturally on the cards of the phone in the catalogue or on the comparison site, but maybe I just mention a detail that is not always seen in the specifications at the first glance. Both phones have a 4-core Qualcomm with GPU Adreno 320, both feature a display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 and a 13-megapixel Exmor camera sensor. Cameras in Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL can record video with HDR. Sony Xperia Z has elevated resistance to water and dust, while the Xperia ZL – a display with a scratch-resistant glass covered with an additional protective coating.
Both new Sony smartphones should be available in the first quarter of this year.
