Sharp Aquos sense8 debuts in Japan - an example of a sensibly designed mid-price smartphone.

Unfortunately, first the bad news: there is little chance of this phone being available outside Japan. It's a pity, because the whole thing looks very sensible, although it doesn't impress with its styling. Sharp Aquos sense8 has slightly wide frames around the screen - but the display itself is decent. It is a 6.1-inch OLED IGZO matrix, working at a resolution of 2432x1080 pixels and refreshing the image at frequencies between 1 and 90 Hz, with a brightness of up to 1,300 nits. There is a drop cut out in the screen for the 8-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. Another 8-megapixel camera is on the back - it takes 120-degree wide-angle photos with an f/2.4 aperture. The main camera, in turn, has a typical 50.3 megapixels, f/1.9 aperture and optical image stabilization.

The heart of the smartphone is the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor, supported by 6+128 GB memory (UFS 2.2 and LPDDR4X). Power is provided by a 5000 mAh battery, which unfortunately charges quite slowly, in 160 minutes. Power supply not included. The smartphone has a minijack, FM radio, NFC and a place for a microSD card. The casing with dimensions of 71x153x8.4 mm has IPX5, IPX8, IP6X and MIL-STD-810G certificates for tightness and durability, and the entire smartphone weighs 159 g. The system runs Android 13 with the AQUOS UX 13.0.002 interface, and the casing can be had in one of four colours: Blue, Pale Green, Light Copper or Cobalt Black. The price is 63,800 yen, or $426.
