The unusual Lava Bold N2 Pro debuted in India today. It's called the Pro, even though it's a budget smartphone. It's also smaller and cheaper than the entry-level Lava Bold N2. What's going on here?
It's not easy to guess the Indian manufacturer's naming policy, so let's just take a look at the new smartphone. Lava Bold N2 Pro doesn't offer much. It has a Unisoc T7250 processor with an LTE modem, supported by a modest 4GB+128GB memory setup. The battery is fairly standard – it has a capacity of 5000 mAh and 18-watt charging, although in India a 10-watt charger is included. The display is equally modest – a 6.67-inch LCD with HD+ resolution, but with a 120 Hz refresh rate as a consolation. An 8-megapixel selfie camera is nestled at the top of the screen, while the main camera has a 50-megapixel sensor and two secondary sensors, though these aren't described in detail. The smartphone launches with Android 15 and will only be updated to the current Android 16, after which it will receive another year of security patch support. There are two body colors to choose from, called Eclipse Grey and Aurora Gold, and the entire device is IP54-rated. The smartphone is priced in India at 10,500 rupees, or $112.

Lava Bold N2 Pro, apart from the price, differs from the base model Lava Bold N2 in size, a slightly newer processor, and more powerful cameras, but it has a lower water resistance rating. Furthermore, the base model runs Android 15 Go, while the Pro already has the "full" version. The funniest thing is that the Pro model is currently on sale for 1,500 rupees cheaper than the base model...
