CyanogenMod and policy of openness of Google Play Store

I do not recommend anyone to install CyanogenMod which deeply modifies the operating system and the way of using the phone with Android. However, everyone should have the right to their own decisions and simple installation.

Simple installation implies to me the presence of the software in the Google Play Store, because that is where most users seek applications for their operating system. Google Store, unlike Apple -like solution is much more open, it allows almost everyone to distribute their own programs. Hence, it was not a great surprise to find there the installer for CyanogenMod. The installation application which allows the change of settings for your phone to be able to install the modification, appeared there in the right place. The problem is that quite soon after the appearance - it disappeared.

For those who do not know the topic: CyanogenMod is an alternative type of firmware software for Android, developed on an open license. It offers options and features that are hard to find in the official distributions of the system. In order not to sweeten too much: it is software directed to advanced, at least conscious users who know what they're doing. Unconscious use may do more harm than good. It's a bit like a knife, an ax or a baseball bat.

Can the hardware store not sell the ax? Maybe. But why on the occasion it boasts, that you can acquire everything that is used for chopping trees? Google Store resigned from the sale of the CyanogenMod software installer throwing it from the offer. You can of course download alternative firmware from the official website and install it yourself in your smartphone.

On the CyanogenMod blog there appeared the entry referring explanations from the store service. According to Google, the application itself is not harmful, however, by its installation the user can lose the warranty for the phone. Google Play does not want to encourage users to take an active deprivation of the right to a guarantee.

On one hand, I consider that the seller should not be forced to sell goods or services that he does not want to sell. On the other hand, in the case of Google Play Store, is in my opinion at odds with the generally proclaimed policy of the store. It seems to me that it would be sufficient to place a notice of the possibility of losing the warranty for software installation. If people want to use axes, sooner or later, there will be someone who will provide them.
