Samsung Galaxy Tab S: slim tablets with impressive screens

Most often recognized assets of Galaxy Tab S are Super AMOLED displays. On a WQXGA 2560x1600 display with a 16:10 aspect ratio it is possible to display over 90% of the Adobe RGB range of colours, which – as Samsung claims – was previously unavailable for tablets. The screen has a remarkable 100000:1 contrast ratio, which gives the images depth and realism, presenting a darker blacks and a brighter whites. The Galaxy Tab S also uses additional display technology from Samsung, going beyond the technical specifications of the hardware. The Adaptive Display technology intelligently adjusts the the gamma characteristics, saturation and sharpness for the currently viewed content, the colour temperature of the display environment and outdoor lighting. Pre-defined modes - AMOLED Cinema and AMOLED Photo – allows users to adjust the screen settings in order to obtain a clear and dynamic image suitable for both movies and photos.

Since the Super AMOLED displays do not require a backlight, Galaxy Tab S consumes less energy than a similarly shaped devices with comparable LCD screens. Both models have a slimmer profile (6.6 mm thick) and weight of only 465g (10.5 version) and 294g (8.4 version). Efficient battery and Ultra-Power Saving Mode provides Galaxy Tab S users many hours of entertainment without having to worry about charging. The batteries have capacity of respectively 4900 and 7900 mAh.

These tablets can be found in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+LTE versions, and they are equipped in Exynos 5 Octa (quad-core 1.9 GHz + quad-core 1.3 GHz) CPU, in the LTE version enhanced with Intel XMM7160 chipset. Both models are fitted with 3 GB of system memory, while the ROM memory will be available in 16 or 32 GB capacities in both cases supported with microSD cards with up to 128 GB. Both models also have an 8-megapixel main camera and a 2.1-megapixel front camera.

Other useful options include the "Multi User Mode" function, which allows you to create your own personalized profiles, the "Fingerprint Scanner" function allowing for safe and convenient access to the equipment, and specially designed "Kid's Mode" with a separate interface and children-friendly apps. By using the Call Forwarding and SideSync 3.0 application, you can make a phone call between a phone and Galaxy Tab S.

Galaxy Tab S will be available on different markets since the end of June 2014. For now we only know the American prices for the models with Wi-Fi. They will cost respectively 400 and 500 USD.
