As reported by the magazine Bloomberg Law, Asus accused Samsung of using their proprietary technologies without a license. According to a complaint filed by Asus Technology Licensing's patent department, Samsung was notified of patent infringement in January 2022. Asus then offered him a global license to use its patented 4G and 5G technologies for a fee, but the Korean company rejected the offer.
After 18 months of unsuccessful negotiations, Asus decided to sue Samsung in Texas for infringement of US patent No. 10,187,878. Now it will seek compensation "at least in the form of reasonable license fees" through legal means. The matter looks serious, because Asus has identified over 200 products as patent infringers - from the latest Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 and Samsung Galaxy Watch6 40mm after the nine-year-old Samsung Galaxy A3 and the first Galaxy Watch.
