Apple’s new generation of operating systems – when and for whom?

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max go on sale in a week, but the updates to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and their counterparts for other Apple devices will be available even sooner.

We already know that the new Apple iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max smartphones, as well as the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 smartwatches, will be available for purchase starting September 18, while the foldable Apple iPhone Duo will go on sale in the second half of October. All of them will come with the latest versions of iOS 27 and watchOS 27 pre-installed, though older devices will be eligible for the update earlier.

Apple has already revealed that the updates—iOS 27 for smartphones, iPadOS 27 for tablets, watchOS 27 for smartwatches, tvOS 27 for smart TVs, visionOS 27 for Apple Vision Pro headsets, and macOS 27 Golden Gate for computers—will be released on September 14, 2026.

The new generation of operating systems is set to deliver increased performance, an improved search function, and richer customization options, while iOS 27 will further enhance the Liquid Glass interface, launch apps faster, and enable smoother switching between mobile connectivity and Wi-Fi. The latest version of the system will be compatible with the following devices:
